How to Get Soul Speed in Minecraft (Soul Speed III)

Guide Java Bedrock

Quick answer: Soul Speed turns soul sand and soul soil into highways: up to +61.5% speed at level III. It's a treasure enchantment - no enchanting table. Barter with piglins or loot bastion remnant chests for books and boots.

What you need

Step by step

  1. Skip the enchanting table: Soul Speed is a treasure enchantment. Tables, fishing, librarians and ordinary chest loot CANNOT give it.
  2. Barter gold ingots with adult piglins in the Nether. They may offer Soul Speed books or iron boots at a random level. Each offer is random, so bring spare gold and keep away from piglin brutes.
  3. Loot bastion remnants: 'generic' chests in bastions hold Soul Speed books and enchanted golden boots at random levels. It's the only structure loot that carries the enchantment.
  4. Kill geared piglins: piglins sometimes spawn wearing golden boots enchanted with Soul Speed, with a chance to drop them on death.
  5. Know the speed: the multiplier is (level × 0.105) + 1.3 - that's +40.5% at I, +51% at II and +61.5% at III, and soul sand's usual slowdown is fully cancelled (soul sand = soul soil for you).
  6. Carpets over soul sand or soul soil preserve the boost in both editions; slabs do so in Java. The boost can continue while jumping after running on soul blocks.
  7. Soul Speed can cost boots durability on soul sand or soul soil. Add Unbreaking to reduce durability loss and Mending to repair with collected XP. Check the boots regularly; neither enchantment guarantees a fixed lifespan or prevents every break.
  8. Soul Speed walkways work without a vehicle and suit uneven terrain. They are not universally faster than blue-ice boat tracks; choose by route, materials and maintenance.

Java vs Bedrock

Both editions use the soul-block speed boost. Java allows slabs over soul blocks without losing it; carpets work in both. Boots can lose durability, so check their condition. Mending only repairs when you collect XP with the damaged boots equipped.

Frequently asked questions

How do you get Soul Speed?

Three ways, all in the Nether: barter gold ingots with piglins (books and iron boots at random levels), loot 'generic' chests in bastion remnants (books and golden boots), or kill piglins that spawned wearing enchanted golden boots. You cannot get it from enchanting tables, fishing or librarians.

How much faster is Soul Speed III?

The speed multiplier is (level × 0.105) + 1.3: +40.5% at level I, +51% at II and +61.5% at III. It also cancels soul sand's slowdown entirely, so soul sand and soul soil are equally fast for you.

Does Soul Speed break your boots?

Yes. Soul Speed can spend durability on soul blocks. Unbreaking reduces losses and Mending repairs with collected XP while the damaged boots are equipped, but neither guarantees boots that last forever or a fixed number of steps.
