How to Find a Crimson Forest in Minecraft
Guide Java Bedrock
What you need
- One piece of gold armor so piglins leave you alone
- An axe for crimson stems and fungi
- Food and blocks for crossing lava lakes
Step by step
- Explore any direction from your portal: the crimson forest makes up 22% of the Nether, so it is usually a short walk - look for dark red fog and floating blaze-colored particles.
- It can border any Nether biome except basalt deltas, so if you see red nylium against any other terrain, you have found it.
- Confirm the biome: a floor of crimson nylium dotted with netherrack and Nether wart blocks, huge crimson fungi overhead, weeping vines hanging down and shroomlights glowing inside the fungi.
- Hoglins spawn here - the only biome outside bastion remnants where they do. They drop porkchops and leather, but they hit hard and fear warped fungi: place one down to keep them away.
- Piglins roam in groups of 3-4: wear gold armor and do not open chests or mine gold near them. Zombified piglins and striders (on lava lakes) round out the locals.
- Harvest the wood: crimson stems are the purple-red fireproof Nether wood - chop the huge fungi and bone meal crimson fungi on crimson nylium to regrow them at home.
- Grab shroomlights (a bright, renewable light source) and crimson roots for decoration while you explore.
- Watch the floor: the dense canopy hides lava pockets and drop-offs - light your path and pillar carefully.
Java vs Bedrock
Red fog, red wood, hoglins and piglins: the crimson forest is the Nether's larder and lumberyard in one - bring gold and an axe.
Versions: Crimson forest generation is the same on Java and Bedrock. Current as of 26.x.
Frequently asked questions
Where is the crimson forest in Minecraft?
It is the second most common Nether biome, 22% of the dimension, and can border any Nether biome except basalt deltas. Look for dark red fog and a crimson nylium floor with huge red fungi.
What spawns in the crimson forest?
Hoglins (the only biome outside bastions), piglins in groups of 3-4, zombified piglins, and striders on lava lakes. Wear gold armor to keep piglins neutral.
How do I protect myself from hoglins?
Hoglins avoid warped fungi - place one on the ground near your work area and they keep their distance. Otherwise fight from a 3-block pillar they cannot reach.
