How to Get Multishot in Minecraft
Guide Java Bedrock
What you need
- Crossbow
- Enchanting table, or anvil + Multishot enchanted book
- XP levels
- Arrows, tipped arrows or firework rockets to load
Step by step
- Craft or loot a crossbow. Tripwire hook + 3 sticks + 2 string + 1 iron ingot, or take one from a pillager.
- Enchant it with Multishot. Enchanting table roll, or an anvil plus a Multishot book from a librarian or loot chest. One level only - no grinding for higher tiers.
- Fire three for one. Each shot throws three copies of your loaded projectile in a fixed 10-degree horizontal spread, but only consumes one arrow from your inventory. The cost: 3 durability points per shot (one per projectile).
- Load the fun ammo. Multishot duplicates whatever is loaded: tipped arrows for area effects, spectral arrows to tag whole groups, and firework rockets for triple explosive volleys - three rockets at once is the classic raid-melter.
- Know the quirks. Only the center arrow can be recovered after firing, and in Java, damage immunity means a single mob can only be hurt by one arrow per shot - Multishot is for crowds, not single targets. Piercing is mutually exclusive.
Java vs Bedrock
Multishot behaves the same in Java and Bedrock for the basics (3 projectiles, 10° spread, one arrow consumed). The one-arrow-per-mob limit comes from Java's damage immunity system, so Bedrock mobs can technically catch more than one arrow from a volley.
Versions: Multishot was added in 1.14 (Village & Pillage, 2019) together with the crossbow itself. Its spread, ammo cost and Piercing incompatibility have not changed since.
Frequently asked questions
Multishot or Piercing?
Multishot for crowd control and firework volleys; Piercing for lined-up mobs and shield-piercing shots. They cannot share a crossbow, so pick per weapon - many players keep one of each.
Does Multishot work with fireworks?
Yes - three rockets per shot, each duplicated for free. Load rockets with firework stars for damage and a Multishot crossbow becomes a grenade launcher that only costs one rocket per volley.
Why did only one of my three arrows hurt the zombie?
Java's damage immunity: right after taking a hit, a mob briefly cannot take another, so the side arrows bounce off the same target. Aim into groups so each arrow finds its own victim.
