How to Get Nylium in Minecraft

Guide Java Bedrock

Quick answer: Mine crimson nylium in a crimson forest or warped nylium in a warped forest with a Silk Touch pickaxe. To make more, place netherrack beside existing nylium, leave air above the netherrack and use bone meal on the netherrack.

What you need

Step by step

  1. Find the matching Nether forest: crimson nylium is the red ground in crimson forests; warped nylium is the blue-green ground in warped forests.
  2. Bring a pickaxe with Silk Touch. A normal pickaxe gives netherrack, and breaking nylium without a pickaxe gives nothing.
  3. Collect at least one block of the type you want and place it beside netherrack at your base.
  4. Leave air above the netherrack and apply bone meal to that netherrack block, not the nylium. It converts to the nearby nylium type.
  5. Keep crimson and warped seed blocks separate if you need one colour: when both are nearby, either type can be chosen with an equal chance.
  6. For huge fungi, plant crimson fungus on crimson nylium or warped fungus on warped nylium and apply bone meal. Avoid leaving opaque blocks above your nylium, which can cause it to decay into netherrack.

Java vs Bedrock

Both editions allow netherrack conversion beside existing nylium. Making more nylium from mined netherrack is not the same as making its source fully renewable: renewable portal-generated netherrack as a Bedrock-specific route. Nylium does not spread automatically like grass.

Frequently asked questions

Why does my nylium drop netherrack?

Your pickaxe needs Silk Touch to preserve nylium. An ordinary pickaxe drops netherrack instead.

Which block should receive the bone meal?

Use it on the netherrack beside nylium, with air above. Bone meal on nylium itself grows Nether vegetation rather than being the same conversion step.

Can warped fungus grow huge on crimson nylium?

No. Match the fungus and ground: warped fungus needs warped nylium, and crimson fungus needs crimson nylium.

Can nylium turn back into netherrack?

Yes. An opaque block above it can make it decay when a random tick occurs. Keep your seed blocks uncovered.
