How to Get the Ward Armor Trim in Minecraft
Guide Java Bedrock
What you need
- Ancient city access (sneaking gear: wool, hoe, snowballs)
- 7 diamonds + cobbled deepslate per duplication
- Smithing table
- Armor + trim material to apply
Step by step
- Find an ancient city in the deep dark at Y=-51, and sneak: wardens ruin trim hunters.
- Open every chest except the ice boxes: ward trims roll in the standard ancient city chests.
- The city is also the only place to get the silence trim, so grab both while you are there.
- Duplicate before you spend: 7 diamonds + 1 cobbled deepslate + the ward template gives 2 back.
- Apply at a smithing table: ward trim + armor piece + trim material (gold, emerald, lapis, redstone, copper, amethyst, quartz, iron, diamond or netherite).
- Flex the Warden-themed pattern: ward is one of the two rarest trims, since it only exists in warden territory.
Java vs Bedrock
Ward trim chest loot and duplication work identically in Java and Bedrock. Ice box chests are excluded in both editions.
Versions: Ward armor trim exists since 1.20 (Trails & Tales), tied to ancient cities since its introduction.
Frequently asked questions
Where does the ward armor trim drop?
Only in ancient city chests: every chest type except ice box chests can contain it. That makes it one of just two trims locked to a single structure, the other being silence in the same city.
How rare is the ward armor trim?
It is uncommon per chest, so expect to clear a full city or two. Once you have one, the diamond duplication recipe (7 diamonds + cobbled deepslate) means you never need to find another.
What does the ward trim look like?
A Warden-face-inspired pattern stamped on your armor, colored by the trim material you smith with. Ward in gold or amethyst on netherite is a classic endgame flex.
