How to Make Chiseled Stone Bricks in Minecraft
Guide Java Bedrock
What you need
- 2 stone brick slabs per chiseled block
- OR 1 stone/stone bricks block with a stonecutter
- Crafting grid or stonecutter
- Any pickaxe
Step by step
- Gather ordinary stone or stone bricks. Use a stonecutter if you want the shortest route.
- In a stonecutter, put one stone or stone bricks block in the input and select chiseled stone bricks. Take one block.
- For the crafting route, first make stone brick slabs: three stone bricks in a horizontal row give six slabs, or one block in a stonecutter gives two slabs.
- Put two stone brick slabs in the same column, one directly above the other, in the inventory grid or a crafting table.
- Take one chiseled stone bricks block. Check that the input was stone brick slabs rather than ordinary stone slabs.
- Collect placed chiseled blocks with any pickaxe. No Silk Touch or furnace is needed for the chiseling step.
Java vs Bedrock
The slab recipe and direct stonecutter routes work in Java and Bedrock. Chiseled stone bricks are a separate decorative variant from cracked or mossy stone bricks. The recipe uses stone brick slabs specifically.

Frequently asked questions
Why do smooth stone slabs not work?
The recipe requires stone brick slabs. Ordinary stone slabs and smooth stone slabs are different ingredients.
Can I skip making slabs?
Yes. A stonecutter turns one stone or stone bricks block directly into one chiseled stone bricks block.
Do I smelt stone bricks to chisel them?
No. Use two vertically stacked stone brick slabs or a stonecutter. Smelting stone bricks makes the cracked variant instead.
