How to Make a Potion of Swiftness in Minecraft

Guide Java Bedrock

Quick answer: Brew a potion of Swiftness by adding sugar to an awkward potion in a brewing stand. It boosts your movement speed by 20% for 3 minutes, extendable to 8 minutes with redstone dust or upped to Swiftness II with glowstone dust.

What you need

Brewing stand + blaze powder fuel
Nether wart + water bottles (for awkward potions)
Sugar (from sugar cane)
Redstone dust or glowstone dust (optional modifiers)

Step by step

Set up a brewing stand and fuel it with blaze powder.
Brew water bottles with nether wart to make awkward potions, the base for almost every potion.
Get sugar: craft it from sugar cane or honey bottles.
Place up to 3 awkward potions in the bottom slots of the brewing stand.
Put the sugar in the ingredient slot on top.
Wait 20 seconds. You now have potions of Swiftness that increase movement speed by 20% for 3 minutes.
Optional: add redstone dust for an 8-minute version, or glowstone dust for Swiftness II (40% faster, 1 minute 30 seconds).

Java vs Bedrock

Swiftness works the same in Java and Bedrock: +20% movement speed at level I and +40% at level II, affecting walking, sprinting and jumping distance. It is the classic potion for long trips, escaping mobs and horse-free travel. It also corrupts into Slowness with a fermented spider eye. In Bedrock, swamp hut cauldrons can contain a potion of Swiftness, and witches sometimes drop one if killed while drinking it.
