Collect smooth sandstone blocks.
Open a crafting table and place one block in the top-left slot, two down the left side of the middle row and three across the bottom row.
Take four stairs. One craft uses 6 blocks.
To use a stonecutter, put one smooth sandstone block in it and choose the smooth sandstone stairs output.
Mine placed smooth sandstone stairs with a pickaxe to get them back. Without a pickaxe they drop nothing.
