How to Make Stone Brick Stairs in Minecraft
Guide Java Bedrock
What you need
- 6 stone bricks for 4 stairs with a crafting table
- OR 1 stone/stone bricks per stair with a stonecutter
- Crafting table or stonecutter
- Pickaxe
Step by step
- Collect stone bricks for the crafting-table route, or ordinary stone for direct stonecutting.
- In a crafting table, put one stone bricks block in the top-left slot, two across the left side of the middle row and three across the bottom row. The mirrored pattern also works.
- Take four stone brick stairs. Each crafting-table batch consumes six blocks.
- To save material, put a stone bricks block in a stonecutter and choose one stone brick stair.
- You can also put ordinary stone in the stonecutter and choose stone brick stairs directly, without crafting bricks first.
- Check the selected output: stone stairs and stone brick stairs have different textures. Use a pickaxe to collect placed stone brick stairs.
Java vs Bedrock
The crafting-table and stonecutter routes work in Java and Bedrock. For this stair recipe, stonecutting gives one stair per block instead of four stairs from six blocks, so it uses less material.

Frequently asked questions
Does the stonecutter save blocks for stairs?
Yes. Six stone bricks make six stairs in a stonecutter but only four in a crafting table.
Do I need to make stone bricks first?
Only for the crafting-table route. A stonecutter makes stone brick stairs directly from ordinary stone.
Why did I get stone stairs instead of stone brick stairs?
The stonecutter offers different outputs. Select stone brick stairs by name rather than ordinary stone stairs.
