How to Raid Trial Chambers in Minecraft

Guide Java Bedrock

Quick answer: Find trial chambers underground, walk within 14 blocks of each trial spawner to trigger a wave scaled to your player count, defeat every mob, and collect the reward per player: trial keys, wind charges and loot. Keys open vaults; ominous bottles upgrade the run to ominous trials with better vaults and the heavy core.

What you need

Step by step

  1. Locate trial chambers underground between Y=-20 and Y=40, usually in deepslate layers. Cartographer villagers can sell a trial chambers map.
  2. Gear up: full iron or better, shield, food and blocks. Copper and tuff corridors mean you are in.
  3. Trigger each trial spawner by stepping within 14 blocks with line of sight; it spawns a limited wave scaled to nearby players.
  4. Defeat the whole wave: the spawner ejects a reward for every player (trial keys ~half the time, plus potions, arrows and wind charges) and enters cooldown.
  5. Use trial keys on vaults: each vault opens once per player, so everyone in the group gets their own loot.
  6. For the hard mode: drink an ominous bottle, walk up to a spawner with Trial Omen and it becomes an ominous trial spawner dropping ominous keys for ominous vaults, the only source of the heavy core.
  7. Kill breezes for breeze rods: they craft into wind charges and the mace.
  8. Prioritize the breeze. Breezes fire wind charges that deal no direct damage but hurl you into the air - the fall hurts. Deflect the charge back with a well-timed hit, then rush it while it repositions. Breeze rods become wind charges and, with a heavy core, the mace.
  9. Handle the spawners smart. Spawners have a cooldown after defeat and cannot be mined for anything useful, so clear, loot, and move on. Narrow doorways and shield corners turn bad rooms into easy ones.
  10. Take the trophies. Heavy core + breeze rod = mace, the smash weapon. Flow and bolt armor trims, wind charges, and ominous bottles for your raid farm round out a full clear.

Java vs Bedrock

Vaults open once per player in both editions, up to 128 players per vault. Trial spawner scaling and rewards work the same in Java and Bedrock.

Versions: Trial chambers exist since 1.21 (Tricky Trials). Ominous trials and the heavy core arrived in the same update.

Frequently asked questions

How do trial spawners work?

They activate when a player gets within 14 blocks with line of sight, summon a limited wave scaled to the number of players, and once every mob dies they eject one reward per player and go on cooldown. Rewards include trial keys, wind charges, potions and arrows.

What is the difference between a vault and an ominous vault?

Normal vaults open with trial keys from normal trial spawners. Ominous vaults need ominous keys from ominous trial spawners, which only appear when you approach a spawner with the Trial Omen effect (from drinking an ominous bottle). Ominous vaults hold the best loot, including the heavy core for the mace.

Can you farm trial chambers?

Yes: trial spawners reactivate after their cooldown, and each player gets rewards separately, so a group can cycle spawners indefinitely. Vaults are once per player, so bring friends for more openings.

How do trial keys work?

Defeat a trial spawner's wave and it has a 50% chance to eject a trial key for every participating player. Each player uses their own key on a vault, and the vault gives everyone separate loot - no fighting over drops. Ominous spawners drop ominous keys at 30% for the better ominous vaults.

Are trial chambers worth it?

Yes - the mace (heavy core + breeze rod) exists nowhere else, ominous vaults have the game's best enchanted golden apple odds at 22.5%, and the armor trims are exclusive. It is also simply the best structured combat content in the mid game.

How do I survive the breeze?

Do not tank the fall - tank nothing: dodge sideways, and hit the wind charge to deflect it back, which blows the breeze open for a sword rush. Feather Falling IV and a water bucket remove most of the danger while you learn the rhythm.
