How to Set a World Border in Minecraft
Guide Java Bedrock
What you need
- Java Edition
- Permission level 2 (operator or cheats on)
Step by step
- Open chat as an operator (permission level 2, or cheats on in a single-player world).
- Set the size: /worldborder set 2000 makes a 2000 x 2000 border. The distance is the width and length in blocks.
- Center it: /worldborder center 0 0 moves the middle of the border. The default center is 0, 0.
- Shrink or grow it slowly by adding a time in seconds: /worldborder set 500 600 changes the size over 600 seconds. The animation keeps running even if the game is paused.
- Change it relative to the current size with /worldborder add, and read the current size with /worldborder get.
- Tune the damage: /worldborder damage amount sets damage per second per block outside the buffer (default 0.2), and /worldborder damage buffer sets the safe distance (default 5 blocks).
- Tune the warning: /worldborder warning distance (default 5 blocks) and /worldborder warning time (default 15 seconds) control when the screen tints red.
Java vs Bedrock
The world border is exclusive to Java Edition. The command only affects the dimension where you run it, so run it in the Nether and the End too if you want a border there. Bedrock Edition has no /worldborder command.
Versions: The default border is 29,999,984 blocks from the origin on each side (59,999,968 wide).
