Librarian Trades in Minecraft: Every Trade by Level

Guide Java Bedrock

Quick answer: In standard trading, librarians offer enchanted books and useful goods such as bookshelves, lanterns and glass. Mending I has a base price of 10-38 emeralds plus a book before modifiers. Books can appear from novice rank, but not every librarian rolls a book offer. Soul Speed, Swift Sneak and Wind Burst are excluded.

What you need

Step by step

  1. Novice standard offers can include 24 paper for 1 emerald, a bookshelf for 9 emeralds or an enchanted book. A book offer is not guaranteed; reroll an untraded librarian by removing and replacing its claimed lectern.
  2. Apprentice offers can include buying 4 books for 1 emerald, a lantern for 1 emerald or another enchanted book offer. Exact selection differs by edition.
  3. Journeyman offers can include buying 5 ink sacs for 1 emerald, selling 4 glass for 1 emerald or another book offer. Leveling does not guarantee a specific enchantment.
  4. Expert offers can include buying books and quills, or selling a compass for 4 emeralds, a clock for 5 emeralds or an enchanted book. Do not assume every librarian has every listed trade.
  5. Master: sells colored candles for 3 emeralds - the 26.1 update replaced the old master name tag trade with candles.
  6. Base book prices before modifiers: I 5-19 emeralds, II 8-32, III 11-45, IV 14-58, V 17-64, plus a book. Treasure pricing is doubled before the 64 cap; Mending I starts at 10-38. Librarians do not sell Soul Speed, Swift Sneak or Wind Burst.
  7. Reroll discipline: never trade before the book you want appears - the first trade locks the librarian's offers permanently.
  8. Curing can discount trades, but does not guarantee a 1-emerald Mending book. Repeated cures of the same villager do not add discounts. Check the actual price, since demand and reputation can change it.
  9. Restocks: librarians resupply twice a day at their lectern - keep it placed and reachable or trades stay locked out.

Java vs Bedrock

These are standard trade rules. The Villager Trade Rebalance experiment replaces random book offers with biome-dependent lists and special master books: Mending requires a swamp librarian at master rank there. Offer probabilities and some quantities differ between Java and Bedrock.

Frequently asked questions

How much does Mending cost from a librarian?

Its standard base trade is 10-38 emeralds plus a book, before demand, reputation and discounts. Curing may lower the price but does not guarantee 1 emerald. The trade-rebalance experiment requires a master swamp librarian.

Do librarians still sell name tags?

No - the 26.1 update removed the name tag trade and master librarians now sell candles. Craft name tags with 1 paper and 1 nugget, or find them as loot and fishing treasure.

How do I get a specific enchanted book?

Place a lectern on an unemployed villager, check the novice book offer, and break and replace the lectern until the book appears - then lock it in with one trade and never lose it.
