How to find Skeleton Horse
Nowhere natural to find standing around: it appears as a 'skeleton trap' horse during thunderstorms (0.75-6.75% of natural lightning strikes depending on difficulty and regional difficulty).
Spawn conditions: A fraction of natural lightning during thunderstorms spawns a trap horse in any biome where it can rain. Channeling tridents and lightning rods never create traps, and an untriggered trap despawns after 15 minutes.
Drops
| Item | Amount | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Bone | 0-2 | +0-1 per Looting level |
| Saddle | 1 | Only if it was saddled (Java) |
How to kill Skeleton Horse
Not worth killing - it only drops bones. Kill the skeleton rider instead and keep the horse.
Behavior
Walk within 10 blocks of the lone trap horse and fake lightning converts it into four skeleton horsemen: skeletons (often enchanted bows and helmets) riding skeleton horses. Kill the riders and the horses turn fully passive. They never burn in sunlight, always have 15 health and speed 0.2 (double your walking speed), jump 0.4-1.0, and can be ridden underwater without dismounting - though you can still drown.
Taming and breeding
Already tame: in Bedrock always, in Java the moment the trap springs. Cannot be bred - this is the only way to get one.
