How to Find a Cherry Grove in Minecraft
Guide Java Bedrock
What you need
- Food and a bed for the trip
- Boat or elytra for scouting
- Bone meal (pink petals multiply with it)
- Shears or tools for saplings and wood
Step by step
- Head for mountains in temperate regions: cherry groves generate on slopes, plateaus and valleys inside mountain rings, in medium-temperature zones. Cold zones rarely have them.
- Scan the slopes for pink: cherry trees have bright pink leaves that drop petal particles, easy to spot from a high vantage point or while flying with an elytra.
- Check the neighbors: cherry groves often border plains and sunflower plains on the valley side, frozen peaks and snowy slopes on the mountain side, and meadows when the temperature shifts.
- Use a seed map tool for speed: Chunkbase and similar finders locate cherry groves from your world seed (run /seed in single-player Java or copy it from world settings).
- What to collect: pink petals (craft into pink dye, and they regrow), cherry saplings for the full pink wood set, and bee nests: cherry trees spawn with nests and bees somewhat commonly.
- Good to know: like meadows, cherry groves generate emerald ore at high altitude. Villages never generate here, but pillager outposts can. Only pigs, sheep and rabbits spawn as passive mobs.
Java vs Bedrock
Nearly identical in both editions. In Java, sugar cane and pumpkin patches never generate in cherry groves. In Bedrock, cherry groves are technically cold and would allow snowfall above Y=200, though this never happens on natural terrain. Pillager outposts generate here in both editions (Bedrock since 1.20.30).
Versions: Cherry groves were announced in February 2023 and added in Java 1.20 and Bedrock 1.20.0 (Trails & Tales, June 2023), after appearing experimentally in 1.19.4 snapshots.
Frequently asked questions
Where do cherry groves spawn?
On mountain slopes, plateaus and mountain-ring valleys in medium-temperature zones, usually bordering plains, meadows or snowy peaks. They range from tiny microbiomes to plateaus hundreds of blocks wide.
What is special about the cherry grove biome?
Cherry trees with pink falling petals, pink petal ground cover that crafts into pink dye, frequent bee nests, emerald ore like in mountain biomes, and the full cherry wood set with pink planks.
How rare are cherry groves?
They're uncommon but not truly rare: most temperate mountain ranges have at least one. If you're struggling, a seed map tool like Chunkbase will point you to exact coordinates.
Do villages or outposts spawn in cherry groves?
Villages never generate in cherry groves, but pillager outposts can, in both Java and Bedrock.
