How to Get Copper Ingots in Minecraft

Guide Java Bedrock

Quick answer: Mine copper ore with a stone pickaxe or better for 2-5 raw copper (up to 20 with Fortune III), then smelt it in a furnace or blast furnace. You can also kill drowned (11% chance, up to 17% with Looting III) or copper golems (1-3 ingots), or craft ingots from a block of copper or nuggets.

What you need

Step by step

  1. Find copper ore or deepslate copper ore and mine it with a stone pickaxe or better. It drops 2-5 raw copper. Fortune raises the maximum to 20 at Fortune III, averaging 7.7.
  2. Smelt the raw copper with any fuel in a furnace or blast furnace.
  3. Or mine the ore with Silk Touch and smelt the ore block directly.
  4. Kill drowned: 11% chance of a copper ingot, 13% with Looting I, 15% with II and 17% with III. Copper golems drop 1-3 ingots, unaffected by Looting.
  5. Craft 9 ingots from a block of copper or waxed block of copper, or craft an ingot from nuggets.

Java vs Bedrock

Silk Touch on copper ore drops the ore itself, which can be smelted too.

Versions: Copper ore has dropped 2-5 raw copper since 1.18 (21w40a).
