How to Get Diorite in Minecraft

Guide Java Bedrock

Quick answer: Mine diorite in the Overworld with any pickaxe, or craft two cobblestone and two nether quartz in an alternating 2x2 pattern for two diorite. Four diorite in a 2x2 square make four polished diorite; a stonecutter can polish one block at a time.

What you need

Any pickaxe
2 cobblestone + 2 nether quartz for 2 diorite (optional)
4 diorite for 4 polished diorite
Stonecutter (optional)

Step by step

Look for white and gray speckled diorite patches among stone in the Overworld.
Mine the diorite with any pickaxe. Silk Touch is not needed; breaking it without a pickaxe gives no drop.
For the crafting route, arrange two cobblestone on one diagonal and two nether quartz on the other diagonal of a 2x2 square. Take two diorite.
Arrange four diorite in a 2x2 square to craft four polished diorite. No furnace or fuel is required.
For a single polished block, put one diorite in a stonecutter and choose polished diorite.
Use the stonecutter to make stairs or two slabs per block. Ordinary diorite also makes walls; polished diorite has no wall variant.

Java vs Bedrock

The mining, crafting and polishing routes work in Java and Bedrock. Both ordinary and polished diorite need a pickaxe to drop. Polishing is crafting or stonecutting, not smelting.
