How to Get Quick Charge in Minecraft

Guide Java Bedrock

Quick answer: Quick Charge is a crossbow enchantment (max level III) that cuts loading time by 0.25 seconds per level. A normal crossbow loads in 1.25 seconds; Quick Charge III drops it to 0.5 seconds - faster than a bow can even draw.

What you need

Step by step

  1. Get a crossbow. Craft one (3 sticks, 2 string, 1 iron ingot, 1 tripwire hook) or loot it from a pillager.
  2. Enchant it with Quick Charge. Enchanting table roll, or an anvil plus a Quick Charge book from a librarian or loot chest. Combine books to reach level III.
  3. Feel the speed. Each level shaves 0.25 seconds off the 1.25 second load time: 1.0s at I, 0.75s at II and 0.5s at III. A Quick Charge III crossbow fires almost twice as fast as stock - and reloads faster than a fully drawn bow shot cycle.
  4. Pair it right. Quick Charge stacks beautifully with Piercing for raid lines or Multishot for volleys (pick one of those two per crossbow). It also makes firework crossbows viable in real fights - 0.5 seconds between rocket volleys.
  5. Do not chase level IV. Quick Charge stops at III in survival; levels IV and V only exist via commands, where V loads the crossbow instantly. On an anvil, combining beyond III wastes your XP.

Java vs Bedrock

Quick Charge works the same in Java and Bedrock: -0.25 seconds per level, capped at III in survival. The instant-load level V trick is a commands-only curiosity in both editions.

Versions: Quick Charge was added in 1.14 (Village & Pillage, 2019) alongside the crossbow. Its 0.25-second-per-level reduction has never been rebalanced.

Frequently asked questions

Is Quick Charge III better than a bow?

For raw speed, yes: 0.5s loads beat a bow's draw-and-fire cycle, and crossbow shots hit instantly at full power. Bows still win on Infinity ammo and Power V burst damage - but a Quick Charge III firework crossbow out-damages most things in crowds.

Quick Charge or Multishot?

They do different jobs and stack on the same crossbow - Quick Charge is compatible with both Multishot and Piercing. The real choice is Multishot versus Piercing; Quick Charge goes on either build.

Why won't my crossbow load instantly with Quick Charge?

Instant loading needs level V, which only exists through commands. Survival Quick Charge caps at III and 0.5 seconds - still the fastest ranged reload in the game.
