Step by step

Craft wool slabs first: 3 matching wool in a row make 6 wool slabs, another 26.x addition.
Craft the cushion: 3 matching wool slabs in a row make 1 cushion of that color. All 16 dye colors exist, and any cushion plus a dye recolors it.
Place and sit: cushions are entities, not blocks. Place one on almost any flat surface - slabs, stairs, snow layers, even enchanting tables - then right-click (use) to sit on it.
Find them in the world: white cushions generate naturally in abandoned camps and can appear in their barrels.
Handle with care: cushions break instantly when attacked (even with 0 damage), when their support block is removed, or when a piston pushes them in Java. They always drop themselves, so no loss - just pick them up.
Try cushion travel: place cushions in a line with 2 blocks between each and hold the use key to hop along at about 15 m/s - faster than a horse. Spamming the key reaches ~45 m/s.
Redstone note: unlike wool blocks, cushions do NOT dampen vibrations - sculk sensors and shriekers detect placing, breaking and sitting on them.

Java vs Bedrock

Both editions have the full feature: Java 26.3 (snap3) and Bedrock 26.40 (Drop 3 of 2026 experiment, fully implemented in 26.50). Small difference: in Bedrock a piston can push a cushion if there's a block in front of the piston; in Java the cushion just breaks.
