A Balanced Diet

Tab: HusbandryChallengeReward: 100XPDifficulty: Medium

Quick answer: Eat everything that is edible, even if it's not good for you

Tree path: Husbandry › A Seedy Place › A Balanced Diet (advancements are independent: they can be completed in any order; the tree only guides progression)

Tree parent: A Seedy Place

Advancements are exclusive to Java Edition. The Bedrock Edition equivalent is achievements, which have different objectives.

How to get A Balanced Diet

  1. Eat each of the 40 foods on the advancement's list, from Apples, Bread and Steak to the weird ones: Rotten Flesh, Spider Eye, Poisonous Potato, Pufferfish, Suspicious Stew, Chorus Fruit, Glow Berries and a Honey Bottle.
  2. Farm and cook the basics early: all raw and cooked meats, potatoes (raw, baked and poisonous), carrots, beetroot and its soup, bread, cookies, pumpkin pie and dried kelp.
  3. Pick up the forage items on your travels: Sweet Berries (taiga), Glow Berries (lush caves), Melon Slices (jungle), Chorus Fruit (End cities) and Honey Bottles (bee nests).
  4. Save the rarest for last: Enchanted Golden Apple (structure chests only), Golden Apple, Golden Carrot, Rabbit Stew, Mushroom Stew and Suspicious Stew (craft from flowers or buy from farmer villagers).

Tips

Eating everything in one sitting is impossible since hunger limits you, so keep a dedicated chest of weird foods and snack between activities. Note the nasty effects: Pufferfish gives Poison and Hunger, and Suspicious Stew effects depend on the flower used. The advancement only requires eating, not surviving comfortably.
