How to Find a Pale Garden in Minecraft
Guide Java Bedrock
What you need
- Food and a bed (nights are dangerous)
- Armor and weapons for hostile mobs
- Axe for pale oak wood
- Silk Touch (optional, for creaking hearts)
Step by step
- Search near dark forests: pale gardens always generate adjacent to dark forest biomes, on plateaus or mountain slopes with high continentalness, low erosion and the highest humidity.
- Spot the colors: the whole biome looks drained of color, with white-gray pale oak trees, pale moss patches, pale hanging moss and eyeblossoms that open at night.
- Use a seed map tool for speed: Chunkbase and similar finders locate pale gardens from your world seed (/seed in single-player Java or world settings). Since 1.21.5 they generate more often and larger.
- Watch for the creaking at night: about 20% of natural pale oaks hide a creaking heart, which activates at night and spawns a creaking. The creaking is invulnerable to normal damage: destroy its heart block instead (look for the particle trail pointing to it).
- Collect the exclusives: pale oak logs and saplings (full white wood set), pale moss blocks and carpets, eyeblossoms, and resin clumps from creaking hearts for resin bricks.
- Good to know: no passive mobs spawn here, woodland mansions can generate inside pale gardens, and the deep dark often generates underneath them.
Java vs Bedrock
The biome is the same in Java and Bedrock. Both editions added it in The Garden Awakens drop, and since then both generate creaking hearts in about 20% of natural pale oaks. Pale hanging moss only grows on natural trees, not on player-grown saplings.
Versions: Pale gardens were revealed at Minecraft Live 2024 and added in Java 1.21.4 and Bedrock 1.21.50 (The Garden Awakens, December 2024). Version 1.21.5 made them larger and more common.
Frequently asked questions
Where do pale gardens spawn?
Adjacent to dark forests, on plateaus and mountain slopes in regions with high continentalness, low erosion, medium temperature and maximum humidity. They often border meadows and groves.
How rare is the pale garden biome?
It's one of the rarer surface biomes, but version 1.21.5 made pale gardens generate more frequently and larger. A seed map tool like Chunkbase finds one in seconds from your seed.
How do you kill a creaking?
You can't damage it directly: find and destroy its creaking heart block inside a nearby pale oak. When you hit the creaking, particles stream toward the heart's tree. Silk Touch drops the heart itself.
What can you get in a pale garden?
Pale oak wood (white planks), pale moss blocks and carpets, eyeblossoms for gray and orange dye, and resin clumps from creaking hearts, which smelt into resin bricks for orange-tinted building blocks.
