How to get Lighten Up

  1. Find a copper bulb in a trial chamber, or craft one from 3 copper blocks, a blaze rod and redstone dust.
  2. Let the bulb oxidize until it is at least exposed (orange with green spots) while it is lit.
  3. Power the bulb with redstone so it is lit; a lever or redstone torch works.
  4. Right-click the lit, oxidized bulb with any axe to scrape off oxidation. The light gets brighter and the advancement unlocks.

Tips

Copper bulbs dim as they oxidize, from light level 15 down to 4. Trial chambers are full of oxidized bulbs already, so scraping one there is the zero-crafting route.
