How to get Voluntary Exile
- Find a raid captain: either a Pillager patrol (they wander the Overworld after a few in-game days) or the captains stationed at a Pillager Outpost. Captains wear an ominous banner on their head.
- Kill the captain. The advancement is hidden, so it pops up as a surprise the moment you do it.
- Since 1.21, captains drop an Ominous Bottle instead of cursing you directly: drinking it applies Bad Omen, which starts a raid when you enter a village.
Tips
This is the first half of the raid loop: keep the Ominous Bottle, find a village and drink it there to trigger a raid, then win it for Hero of the Village. Until you are ready for that, heed the warning in the description and keep your distance from villages after the kill if a patrol surprise-attacked you mid-errand.
