How to get Surge Protector

  1. Craft a lightning rod from 3 copper ingots in a vertical line.
  2. Place it on or next to a building where a villager lives, and stay in the area.
  3. Wait for a thunderstorm: when lightning strikes the rod, it absorbs the bolt without starting any fire.
  4. You must be within 30 blocks of the strike, with an unharmed villager inside the 30x30x30 area around it. That protected strike completes the advancement.

Tips

Thunderstorms are the bottleneck, so build the rod over a village house during any rain and wait for the storm to upgrade. A Channeling trident during the storm also calls lightning down where you need it.
