Under Lock and Key

Tab: AdventureDifficulty: Medium

Quick answer: Unlock a Vault with a Trial Key

Tree path: Adventure › Minecraft: Trial(s) Edition › Under Lock and Key (advancements are independent: they can be completed in any order; the tree only guides progression)

Tree parent: Minecraft: Trial(s) Edition

Advancements are exclusive to Java Edition. The Bedrock Edition equivalent is achievements, which have different objectives.

How to get Under Lock and Key

  1. Enter trial chambers (see the Minecraft: Trial(s) Edition guide).
  2. Fight through trial spawners: each completed spawner has a chance to eject a trial key as a reward.
  3. Find a vault: the block with the orange glowing face, dotted around the chambers.
  4. Use the trial key on the vault to unlock it and take your loot. Opening it completes the advancement.

Tips

Every player can open each vault once, so chambers stay worth visiting on servers. Ominous trials give ominous trial keys for the better ominous vaults (see Revaulting), but a plain key only fits plain vaults.
