Step by step

Find a pale garden: the pale oak biome with the gray, quiet trees. Come at night - that's when creakings spawn and resin production works.
Spot a creaking: the tree-like mob that only moves when you look away. Don't kill it - it's your resin generator, and it only takes damage through its heart anyway.
Hit the creaking: each hit (by you, a tamed wolf, or your explosion) makes its creaking heart place 2-3 resin clumps on connected pale oak logs within 2 blocks. There's a 5-second cooldown between hits.
Harvest the clumps: they break instantly with any tool or your fist. Follow the glowing trail of orange particles from the creaking to find its heart if you want to relocate the operation.
Alternative: mine the creaking heart itself without Silk Touch for 1-3 resin clumps (Fortune raises the max to 6) - but Silk Touch drops the intact heart, which you'd rather keep for a home resin farm.
