How to Make Cut Red Sandstone in Minecraft

Guide Java Bedrock

Quick answer: Put four regular red sandstone blocks in a 2×2 square to make four cut red sandstone blocks. A stonecutter also turns one red sandstone block into one cut red sandstone. Do not smelt it: the furnace makes smooth red sandstone instead.

What you need

4 regular red sandstone blocks for 4 cut red sandstone
Or 1 regular red sandstone per stonecutter conversion
Stonecutter for single-block crafting (optional)
Pickaxe to collect placed blocks

Step by step

Get regular red sandstone. If starting from red sand, craft four red sand in a 2×2 square to make each red sandstone block.
Gather four red sandstone blocks for the crafting route.
Place the four blocks in a 2×2 square in your inventory or on a crafting table. Take four cut red sandstone blocks.
For a single block, put one regular red sandstone in a stonecutter and choose cut red sandstone. The output is one block.
Use cut red sandstone for orange walls and borders. Unlike red sand, it stays in place without a block underneath.
Recover placed cut red sandstone with any pickaxe. It drops nothing if you break it by hand.

Java vs Bedrock

The crafting and stonecutter routes work in Java and Bedrock. Both preserve the block count. Cut red sandstone and smooth red sandstone are separate variants: crafting or stonecutting makes cut red sandstone, while smelting regular red sandstone makes smooth red sandstone.
