How to Make Smooth Red Sandstone in Minecraft
Guide Java Bedrock
What you need
- 1 regular red sandstone per smooth red sandstone
- Furnace
- Fuel such as coal or charcoal
- Pickaxe to collect placed blocks
Step by step
- Get regular red sandstone. If starting from red sand, put four red sand in a 2×2 crafting square to make each block.
- Place the red sandstone in the upper slot of a furnace.
- Add fuel such as coal or charcoal to the lower slot.
- Wait for smelting to finish, then take one smooth red sandstone for each input block.
- Use the smooth orange block for walls, floors or desert builds. It can also be made into matching stairs and slabs.
- Collect placed blocks with any pickaxe. Breaking them by hand drops nothing; Silk Touch is not required.
Java vs Bedrock
The furnace recipe works in Java and Bedrock. Smooth red sandstone is different from cut red sandstone. Use regular red sandstone as the furnace input, not ordinary sandstone, which produces the pale smooth sandstone variant.

No. First craft the red sand into red sandstone, then smelt that block.

You used ordinary sandstone. This recipe requires the red sandstone variant.
Do I need Silk Touch to collect it?
No. Any pickaxe drops smooth red sandstone as itself.
